MCP is the protocol that lets Claude discover and call external tools. Your MCP server is the thing that registers those tools, validates what Claude sends, authenticates to your downstream systems, executes the calls, and hands the results back. Getting that right matters because Claude will use your tools exactly as you define them, which means a badly designed schema or a missing validation step becomes a production problem fast.
We go through the full build lifecycle. How to write tool descriptions and parameter schemas that Claude actually uses correctly. How to handle authentication to APIs and databases without putting credentials in the wrong place. How to validate what Claude sends before you execute it and sanitize what comes back before it enters Claude's context. How to write error handling that fails loudly rather than silently.
We also cover the team and deployment side: how to structure a server that multiple developers can work on, how to version tools without breaking sessions that are already running, how to write tests that catch regressions, and what production monitoring looks like for MCP activity.
Security is threaded throughout, not bolted on at the end. You will leave with a server template and a deployment checklist.
